CVB Brother Leads Aviation Day
Updated: 10 hours ago
On Saturday, October 17, 2026, CVB Brothers, led by Aviation Committee Chair Bro. James Hayes (Fall 2017), in partnership with Hampton University and the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees, hosted the Eastern Province Aviation & STEM Day at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. The event welcomed more than 100 Kappa Leaguers and students, ages 8–18, from across the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia for an immersive educational experience designed to introduce them to career opportunities in aviation, aerospace, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The initiative was designed to broaden students’ understanding of the aviation industry by exposing them to the numerous professional pathways available beyond becoming a commercial or military pilot. Throughout the event, students had opportunities to interact with aviation professionals, industry representatives, and organizations working across various sectors of the industry.
Participants experienced interactive flight simulators, observed drone demonstrations, and engaged with professionals representing fields such as aviation operations, drone technology, air traffic control, aerospace, and space exploration. Representatives from NASA, airlines, and other aviation-related organizations were also present to share insight into their respective industries and discuss potential educational and career pathways.
A significant component of the event was its emphasis on early exposure and career exploration. By bringing together students ranging from elementary through high school, Aviation & STEM Day provided an opportunity for young people to discover interests, ask questions, and envision themselves pursuing careers they may not have previously considered. For some participants, the experience introduced entirely new possibilities, while others were able to further develop existing interests in aviation and emerging technologies.
The impact of the event extended beyond the students themselves, providing parents and families with an opportunity to explore potential academic and professional pathways alongside their children. Conversations with industry professionals helped reinforce the importance of early career awareness, educational preparation, and access to mentorship and resources.
For the Chesapeake-Virginia Beach Alumni Chapter, Aviation & STEM Day represented more than a single-day educational event. It reflected the chapter’s continued commitment to community engagement, youth development, educational enrichment, and creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation. Through strategic partnerships and collaboration with organizations that share a commitment to education and workforce development, CVB continues to identify ways to connect young people with experiences that can positively influence their futures.
CVB and the Aviation Committee extends its appreciation to Hampton University, the National Black Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees, participating aviation professionals, organizational representatives, parents, volunteers, and everyone who contributed to making the event successful.
